As a person having an allergic rhinitis, I know how it feels like living suffering from sneezing almost everyday of my life, that’s why I also want to avoid cold that will only make my day worst. Also as a lecturer, voice-over talent, and performer I want to avoid catching cough too. I just can’t take adding another illness to my everyday battle with rhinitis.
Catching cold and/or cough is not a thing to under estimate. Though cold is as common as its name (common cold) we still want to avoid it as much as possible, having a runny or clogged nose are not so pleasant feeling. Also having to suffer from irritable cough that just itches your throat and sometimes hurts the chest is something that we all want to avoid or prevent.
According to my research (experience with visiting the doctors and good old internet) here are some few tips to avoid cold and cough:
TAKE YOUR SHOTS
No! Not a tequila shot (you wish). Getting your yearly flu shots can greatly help to avoid cold and cough that are brought by different flus. Though there is still no vaccine for the common colds, at least you can build a defense for other flu caused illnesses.
EXERCISE
Doing regular exercise can help your heart pump blood more efficiently, that will boost your body’s natural virus killing cells.
DON’T SMOKE
Smoking can make you more susceptible to colds. It can also irritate your lungs causing you to cough. Smoker’s cough anyone?
WASH YOUR HANDS
Washing your hands properly will keep those diseases causing germs away from your mouth and nose. Health officials advices us to wash our hands with soap while singing the Happy Birthday song two times. Yup, you heard it right! Singing, I mean washing your hands that long assures that you clean it thoroughly and maybe happily.
DAILY VITAMINS
To help boost your immune system, you should also take daily vitamin supplements. Take whatever brand that suits your needs or what you and your doctor think is more effective. Vitamin C is a stable must to avoid cold and cough.
